Sennheiser announces a flagship noise-canceling headphones Momentum 4
Sennheiser hasn't updated their Momentum noise canceling headphones since 2019. The company has announced the Momentum 4, a new take on its flagship headphones that includes a redesigned look, new features and impressive 60 hours of battery life. What's more, Sennheiser offers plenty of upgrades for $50 less than the Momentum 3 at its debut.
The design that Sennheiser has used on much of the Momentum line since it disappeared. The combination of metal and leather with visible cables has been replaced with a simpler and more plastic one. The new look is decidedly less premium than previous Momentum models. However, what the Momentum 4 might lack in terms of aesthetics, it makes up for in increased comfort. The company notes that the new hinge is easy to adjust and doesn't put too much pressure on the head. The ear cups now also rotate for easier storage. Another big change concerns the built-in controls, with most of the physical buttons replaced by a touchpad on the right side.
Sennheiser says it has opted for an "audiophile-inspired speaker" that relies on 42mm transducers for sound. The company explains that the setup creates "brilliant dynamics, clarity, and musicality," plus you can use the EQ, presets, and the new Sound Personalization feature to further customize the setup. Sound personalization takes into account your personal preferences and adjusts the "listening experience" accordingly.
Of course, these are flagship headphones, so active noise cancellation (ANC) is on board. The company says its updated adaptive ANC works to maintain sound quality even in the noisiest environments. A transparency mode is also available, and the Sennheiser app has a slider between it and ANC. In other words, you won't just end up with one or the other, so you can add some ambient noise if needed. This model can also automatically change audio settings based on your location, a feature that Sennheiser first introduced in March.
Sennheiser also offers a Sidetone feature that allows you to adjust the volume of your voice during a call. It's a tool that helps you feel less flashy and works on top of the Momentum 4's automatic wind noise reduction for beamforming microphones during voice and video chats.
Sennheiser says you can expect up to 60 hours of battery life on a single charge, and that's with ANC turned on. The quick charge function gives you six hours of use in 10 minutes. To help you conserve battery power, Momentum 4 features auto pause and auto on/off. The company says the earbuds turn off when you leave them unattended and turn back on when you pick them up.
The Momentum 4 will be available for pre-order in black and white on August 9th and will ship on August 23rd. The earphones cost $349.95, which is $50 less than the Momentum 3 when it debuted in 2019.
