iOS 16 now shows the percentage of charge in the battery indicator

Apple has just released the fifth iOS 16 developer beta. It includes a few modifications, but if you've been on Twitter, you already know what everyone is talking about: the return of the battery percentage indicator. For the first time since Apple removed the icon in 2017 to make room for iPhone X's notch, it's possible to see how much battery life your phone has without bringing down the Control Center shade.

If you're a beta tester, go to the Settings menu and select Battery from the drop-down menu. You'll find a new option there labeled "Battery Percentage." The visible symbol is somewhat larger than the one you're probably used to seeing. In addition, if you connect your iPhone to a power source, the icon will become green and display a lightning symbol beside the battery percentage. It's also yellow when your phone is in low-power mode.

The iPhone XR, iPhone 11, iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 minis do not have the option to view battery percentage. We'll also point out that iOS 16's feature may be cut from the final release. The next version of Apple's mobile operating system will be released later this year. New lock screen customization options, text editing and recall in iMessage, and real-time notifications called Live Activities are among the significant features Apple teased at WWDC 2022.
