Apple is planning to switch AirPods and iPhone 15 to USB-C for charging in 2023
Apple is reported to be ready to convert the iPhone to USB-C charging as soon as next year. According on current reports, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo expects new versions of the AirPods charging cases to be released as soon as next year. Later this year, Apple will release new AirPods Pro models, but the charging case for this model will likely continue to use Lightning connectivity. Last year, Apple debuted its AirPods 3 headphones, which also feature Lightning for charging. Both AirPods and AirPods Pro charging cases accept wireless charge induction.
According to KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who has a strong track record when it comes to Apple rumors, future versions of AirPods will use USB-C for charging. The analyst claimed in May that AirPods and other Apple accessories would migrate to USB-C as well, including the Magic Keyboard, Magic Trackpad, and MagSafe Battery Pack for iPhone.
This implies that by 2023, when the iPhone 15 switches to USB-C, Apple will have already begun the transition of all of its goods to USB-C. This will eventually lead to the demise of the Lightning connection altogether. Despite the fact that Lightning is still widespread, this may take years to actualize.
