Disney+, Hulu increases prices and announces ad-supported subscription coming in December 2022
Disney Plus had one of the lowest monthly fees of any streaming service in the United States, but that isn't the case anymore. If you've already paid for a year of Disney Plus and don't want to renew your subscription, you're fine until it ends on December 2022; otherwise, you'll be charged extra for Disney Plus after that date.
This week, Disney+ officially confirmed that along with the introduction of its new ad-supported tier, which will cost $7.99 per month, its ad-free plan will see a price increase. As a result of this change, instead of $7.99, you'll have to pay $10.99 per month for Disney+ membership. The price hike and the new ad-supported service will be implemented on December 8th, according to Disney during its Q3 FY22 earnings call. Unfortunately, these are not the only prices that are going up this year.
Hulu and ESPN Plus, two other streaming services affiliated with Disney, will see their subscription prices rise this year. Hulu's monthly ad-supported subscription price will climb from $6.99 to $7.99 (up from $6.99), while the ad-free plan will rise from $12.99 to $14.99.
ESPN Plus, on the other hand, will experience a $3 price increase, so instead of $6.99 per month, you'll have to shell out $9.99 every month. More significantly, ESPN Plus' pricing adjustment will take effect on August 23th, whereas the other two services--Disney Plus and Hulu--will see their prices rise from December 8th as previously stated.
For those who are thinking about moving to an ad-supported plan, there is some good news. Disney announced that all ad-supported plans will have a "lower ad load and frequency to provide viewers with a great experience." Also, it was verified by Disney that no advertisements would be displayed on children's accounts at any time.
