Lithuania invests €36 million to buy small drones, including Switchblade
Lithuania is ready to invest in improving its drone fleet. The Defense Ministry has begun the procedure for purchasing oversized drones.
Here's What We Know
The defense ministry has conducted an analysis of the drone market. Based on the results, the Lithuanian government intends to allocate approximately €36 million for the purchase of drones. The state wants to order nine "small drone" complexes and 26 "mini-drone" complexes.
Defense Minister Arvydas Anušauskas said the purchase of UAVs would significantly improve military intelligence capabilities, as Lithuania currently has no drones that can do so. What kind of drones the Baltic state wants to buy is not yet known. But the Defense Ministry confirms that Lithuania wants to buy Switchblade drones in addition to attack drones. They will allow for precise strikes on enemy positions at a distance of up to 10 kilometers.
The purchase of drones is part of Lithuania's plan to strengthen its defense capabilities. In total, Vilnius is ready to invest €1 billion in the purchase of military equipment from the United States and Germany.
