Game discs for Xbox One on Xbox Series X can now run offline
Microsoft has confirmed that a recent Xbox update contains changes to the DRM feature and it is now possible to run Xbox One discs on the next-generation console without a connection to the web.
Here's What We Know
Since the launch of the Xbox Series X, users had a problem: in order to run their old games from discs on the new generation console, they had to connect to the Internet. This is required to register the disc on Microsoft's servers.
This week, users noticed that they no longer need to do that. You can now play Xbox One discs on the X Series without an Internet connection.
"Yes, this is true since update 2206," Xbox engineering manager Eden Marie confirmed in a tweet. "We examined data since Series X|S launch & determined the online compatibility check isn't needed in the vast majority of cases for Xbox One discs. Some games may still need to be updated online after install to ensure the best experience."
