Britain bought 28 Belgian M109 howitzers for shipment to Ukraine

The United Kingdom will soon hand over to the Ukrainian Armed Forces a new batch of M109 self-propelled artillery guns, which once belonged to Belgium.

Here's What We Know

In 2015, Belgium sold 28 M109 self-propelled artillery units to two commercial organizations. The cost was €15,000 per howitzer. Seven years later, Belgium wanted to buy back the guns for shipment to Ukraine, but had to abandon the idea because the M109s had been upgraded, raising their cost to €150,000.

As a result, Belgium refused to buy back the 28 self-propelled artillery pieces. The British government, on the other hand, did not hesitate to buy the M109 howitzers at market price. Soon they will be handed over to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
