The U.S. will provide Ukraine with up to 16 NASAMS launchers by the end of the year and up to 64 in total

The speaker of the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Yuriy Ignat, spoke about how many launchers Ukraine will receive from the United States.

Here's What We Know

A few days ago it was reported that the first US-Norwegian-made surface-to-air missile systems had already arrived in Ukraine. But as it turned out later, President Zelensky said in an interview not about getting the air defense systems, but about the approval of their delivery by Joe Biden.

Until now it remained a secret how many launchers would be delivered to Ukraine. Even now we do not know exactly, but we can already get some orientation. According to Yuriy Ignat, the Armed Forces will receive up to 16 launchers - eight in each of the two batteries.

They will arrive in Ukraine before the end of fall 2022. The U.S. has promised to transfer a total of eight batteries, i.e. a maximum of 64 launchers. The cost of one is about $60 million. The rest of the systems will be delivered within two years. In addition to the launcher, the battery includes a radar and a command post. Ignat added that Ukraine began negotiating for NASAMS during the first days of the large-scale Russian invasion.
