PUBG suddenly running like trash - should I try best vpn for pubg to fix this nightmare ping?

Been playing PUBG for years with generally decent connections (80-120ms ping) from my location. Not perfect but definitely playable until about two weeks ago.

Now suddenly every single match is 300+ ping, constant rubberbanding, and getting killed before enemies even appear on my screen. Checked my internet (all other games running fine), reinstalled game, verified files, even tried mobile hotspot instead of home wifi - same problems.

Friend suggested my ISP might be throttling PUBG specifically and recommended trying best vpn for pubg to route around whatever they're doing. Never used a VPN before and kinda sketched out about potentially getting banned since I've heard mixed things about PUBG's policy on VPN users.

Has anyone actually solved similar issues with a VPN? Do they actually work for fixing game-specific latency problems? And most importantly, is there any risk to my account? I've spent way too much on skins to lose everything over this.

Same throttling happened to me when switching ISPs last fall. Recorded 60ms ping in every game EXCEPT pubg (350+ms). New provider was definitely throttling game traffic during peak hours. Fixed by using VPN but only certain server locations worked - had to experiment to find closest server with clean routing

Ur isp probably routing u to wrong servers. Happened when my provider updated their bgp tables last month. Suddenly connecting to asia from usa with 400 ping. Vpn lets u choose connection path basically. Not bannable unless ur using it to deliberately play in wrong regions for advantage

This is classic "gaming packet deprioritization" by ISPs. They target UDP gaming packets specifically during network congestion. Try running ping tests during matches to confirm - you'll see normal ping times to websites but massive spikes to game servers specifically. VPN encrypts traffic so ISP can't identify and throttle game packets

just to be sure... u checked ur server selection in game settings right? game likes to randomly switch regions sometimes after updates. make sure ur still set to closest region before trying anything complicated

Why would your ISP target PUBG specifically? More likely the game's servers/netcode broke in recent patch. Check their discord - tons of similar reports from players on totally different ISPs. This sounds like developer-side issue not ISP throttling

Vpns literally DESIGNED to solve this exact problem. Changing ur routing path can bypass congestion points between you and game servers. Think of it like taking side streets when highway jammed. Sometimes longer route actually faster if main route has traffic jam

Went through identical issues 3 months ago. Tried various solutions before finding surfshark actually resolved everything nicely. Paid version obviously better but even their free tier stabilized my connection enough to play. Just make sure to connect to server geographically close to your normal pubg region

Important distinction: VPNs can help with ROUTING problems but will almost always make pure LATENCY slightly worse (adding 5-15ms overhead). If your problem is bad routing between ISP and game servers, VPN helps. If problem is purely distance-based latency, VPN makes it worse

Can confirm this is 100% accurate. Had terrible routing through Level3 backbone that VPN fixed completely. Different problem than pure distance ping. Run traceroute during lag spike to see if certain hops have massive packet loss - that's the routing problem VPNs can actually fix

Nobody mentioning packet fragmentation which causes massive pubg-specific performance issues. Some isps implement packet inspection that interferes with pubg's networking protocol. Vpn encapsulates traffic preventing this inspection and resulting fragmentation

Honestly? Try mobile data before paying for VPN. Completely different routing path. If game runs smooth on phone hotspot but not home internet, confirms ISP issue. If both have problems, likely PUBG server problem not worth throwing money at VPN

pubg hilariously broken for detecting vpns. Buddy got permabanned for playing on hotel wifi (which used vpn). Took 3 months to get account back. Proceed with caution, especially with fancy skins at stake

Spent $70 on expressvpn hoping to fix exact issue you described, made zero difference for me and actually caused random disconnects. Later discovered issue was packet loss on particular network hop not fixable by vpn. Check for packet loss before wasting cash
