Citizen adds three colourful solar-powered Corso watches at £229

Citizen has quietly expanded its Corso line with three new solar-powered watches, each wearing a different dial colour. The models — EW2291-51Z (purple), EW2291-51X (pink), and EW2291-51L (blue) — are on sale now in the UK at £229 each, per Citizen UK official. At 27mm, they offer something genuinely scarce right now: a compact dress watch that doesn't need a battery change.

The specs

All three share identical hardware. The case is silver-tone stainless steel at 27mm — noticeably smaller than the 40mm-plus norm that dominates both smartwatches and sports watches. A stainless steel bracelet with a push-button fold-over clasp is standard, and the dial sits behind mineral crystal glass. Three hands cover hours, minutes, and seconds, with a date window alongside.

Power comes from Citizen's Eco-Drive system, which converts both natural and artificial light into stored charge. In practice, that means no battery to replace and no trips to a jeweller for a routine service — the watch keeps running as long as it sees light. Water resistance is rated to 100 metres, so it handles swimming and splashing without concern, confirms Gizmochina (Aug 2026).

The case for compact

The Corso's 27mm footprint is the real differentiator here. Most watches marketed to mainstream buyers — and virtually every smartwatch — sit well above 40mm. The Corso sits closer to classic dress-watch proportions, which means it slips under a cuff without a fight and works on smaller wrists where bulkier options look out of scale.

The three dial colours — purple, pink, and blue — broaden the appeal beyond the usual grey and navy defaults. For buyers who want a watch that is visually distinct without going loud, the palette makes sense.
