Bella Ramsey admitted that she had not played The Last of Us before casting for the role of Ellie. Then the authors of the TV adaptation of the game asked her not to do it at all
In an interview with Usatoday, Bella Ramsey, who played Ellie in the TV adaptation of The Last of Us, said that she did not play the game, but watched several videos of the gameplay on YouTube.

When asked if Bella had played the game before auditioning, she said the following:
"I was actually encouraged not to. After my first audition, they asked me, "Have you played it?" And I said "nope," and they said, "Keep it that way." I did watch some of the gameplay on YouTube just to get a sense of it"
For the actress, the series has become a very important part of her life and she is looking forward to the show's release:
"But I'm so excited for it to come out – it was such a big part of my life. I shot for a whole year, which is quite a long time when you've only lived for 19 years. Pedro wrote a little card to me at the end, saying, "How interesting that something so huge and life-changing should happen so early in your life and so late in mine." I thought it was a really sweet observation and I just had the best time"
Most likely, this is done so that the actors do not copy their characters, but show something of their own on the screens. After all, Pedro Pascal also did not play the game. But the trailers show that the actors play to the fullest and show all their emotions.

The Last of Us is a game from NaughtyDog, which was released in 2013. In 2020, MetaCritic users recognized Sony's exclusive as"the best of the decade".
