It's not easy for a new PlayStation Plus subscription right now
Not so long ago Sony launched an updated version of PlayStation Plus subscription with three price options: Essential, Extra and Premium. It seems that the updated service is not doing well.
Here's What We Know
From the last quarterly earnings report of the company it became known that the number of subscribers to the PlayStation Plus service decreased from 47.3 million to 45.4. The number of subscribers has been decreasing for the third quarter in a row, and Sony launched an updated subscription in June with new pricing plans.
However, it can't be said that the company's gaming division is doing badly at all: revenue from "Network Services", which includes revenue from PlayStation Plus and advertising PlayStation Network and PlayStation Now increased from 100 to 117 billion yen (approximately $679 million and $794 million respectively) compared to last year.
As of this quarter, Sony has sold 25 million PlayStation 5 consoles. Between July and September 30, 3.3 million PS5 consoles were sold, the same number as were sold in the same quarter last year. It also sold 62.5 million physical copies of games, down nearly 20 percent from the same quarter last year.
