Modern optics, communications and improved armor: the Pentagon told how the U.S. and the Netherlands are upgrading 90 Czech T-72 tanks for Ukraine
Yesterday, November 4, the United States and the Netherlands 1,100 secret Ghost Phoenix drones, 45 upgraded T-72 tanks and 250 M1117 armored personnel carriers - the U.S. announced a new $400 million military aid package for Ukraine, which includes 90 Czech T-72 tanks. The plan is to modernize them and send them to Ukraine in the near future.
Here's What We Know
According to the Pentagon, the upgraded T-72 tanks will receive modern optics, communications, as well as improved armor. It can be assumed that we are talking about upgrading to the T-72 Avenger. The first batch of tanks (about 20-30) is to be handed over to the AFU already in December. The rest will come to Ukraine in 2023.
I get a lot of questions as to how the USA and the Netherlands are upgrading 90 Czech T-72 tanks for Ukraine. The Pentagon explained that they will be equipped with modern optics, communication systems and armor. After upgrading, part of them will arrive in Ukraine in January, the rest - at the beginning of 2023.
