Romania orders Naval Strike Missile coastal defense systems worth $138.65 million
The Romanian government has decided to strengthen the country's coastal defense with the help of Norwegian Naval Strike Missile (NSM) systems.
Here's What We Know
A couple of days ago we wrote that the Netherlands would replace the Harpoon with the NSM, and in late fall the UK did the same. Now Copenhagen and London have joined Bucharest as well. But Romania is buying not only missiles.
The Norwegian company Kongsberg Defense & Aerospace has received a contract worth $138.65 million from Rayhteon Missiles & Defense. The deal was approved by the United States back in October 2020. The agreement calls for the delivery of two coastal defense systems with four launchers.
The NSM missile has a launch range of 185 km and can reach speeds of over 1170 km/h. The weight of the warhead is 125 kg, and the total weight including the booster is 400 kg.
