Sunswift 7 solar-powered electric car breaks 1000 km speed record and can enter the Guinness Book of World Records

Engineers at the University of New South Wales have developed a car equipped with solar panels. The vehicle was able to set a speed record at a distance of 1,000 km.

Here's What We Know

The car of Australian engineers has no air conditioning, airbags, ABS and other components typical of modern cars. This was done deliberately in order to maximize the optimization of the vehicle.

The aerodynamic drag coefficient was reduced to 0.095. For comparison, the Tesla Model S electric car has 0.209. The normal coefficient for modern cars is 0.3 and below.

Work on the Sunswift 7 took about two years. The aim of the Australian engineers was to create a solar-powered car that could enter the Guinness Book of Records as the fastest car in its class at a distance of 1000 km.

For the race, the development team went to the Highway Circuit track at the Australian Automotive Research Centre. On a single charge, the Sunswift 7 was able to complete 240 laps at an average speed of 85 km/h. It took the car 11 hours 53 minutes and 32 seconds to do so. The car could go into the Guinness Book of World Records when the committee gets all the data to register the achievement.
