Tesla gave free access to Enhanced Autopilot for 30 days

Australian owners of Tesla cars report that the American company has opened free access to improved autopilot.

Here's What We Know

Enhanced Autopilot is one of the three driving automation features in Tesla electric cars. It ranks between the basic Autopilot option and the top-of-the-line Full Self-Drive.

For 30 days, Tesla owners will be able to take advantage of several Enhanced Autopilot features. Among them are automatic lane changing, route guidance (without automatic stops at traffic lights and intersections), and auto-parking.

The driver can also remotely control the car with his smartphone while leaving the parking space. Another feature is called Smart Summon. It allows the car to automatically leave the parking space and drive up to the driver. But to do so, the route cannot cross public roads, and the driver must remain within line of sight.

Opening access to Enhanced Autopilot allows Tesla car owners to familiarize themselves with the advanced driver assistance system and save $6,000. That's because activation of the feature is only available after full payment ($6,000), unlike Full Self-Drive, which can be activated with a $199-a-month subscription.
