Microsoft has no rights to the limb in Minecraft
Apparently, since the beginning of Minecraft, there is a short poem by Julian Gough in the game, which players see after completing the game. You can learn about the author from the work itself, where he indicated his name. So, as the creator said, neither Mojang Studios nor Micrsofot, which acquired the studio in 2014, have the right to use the work in the game.
The fact is that Gough did not enter into any agreements with companies regarding the use of his work. After almost a decade of contemplating whether to consult a lawyer to seek justice, Gough decided to put the work in the public domain forever through a Creative Commons CC0 1.0 license.
He explained this in many posts on his Twitter page. He also said that Microsoft decided not to comment on the situation, and he was afraid to go further because of the army of 1700 lawyers that the company has at its disposal.
(For those who like a little evidence with their story, here's the original contract, which I refused to sign when I wrote the ending in 2011, and refused to sign again when Microsoft bought Minecraft in 2016.) pic.twitter.com/u0zXUYu7tY
