It's official: Sweden will hand over Archer to Ukraine, one of the best self-propelled howitzers in the world
The Swedish government has approved the supply of Archer self-propelled artillery systems to Ukraine.
Here's What We Know
Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said so, according to the Aftonbladet newspaper. The question of transferring the SAU was discussed in Sweden since August. Now the government made a decision to deliver the equipment. It is planned to transfer them to Ukraine in the future packages of military assistance. It is not yet known how many SAU will be received by the Ukrainian armed forces. Presumably, we are talking about 12 howitzers.
Flashback
Archer is a modern Swedish 155 mm self-propelled artillery unit based on Volvo A30D 6×6 chassis. It is designed to destroy manpower, artillery batteries and bunkers, as well as to provide passages in minefields and field barriers. The SAU is operated by 3-4 people. It is capable of engaging targets at ranges up to 60 km (with Excalibur rounds). In 3.5 minutes Archer can fire over 21 rounds.
