BMW recalls more than 14,000 iX, i4 and i7 cars due to software failure that disrupts power supply
German car giant BMW has encountered a problem in the software for the iX, i4 and i7. The company is forced to recall thousands of electric cars because of it.

BMW says it will have to recall iX SUVs along with i7 and i4 sedans that were produced between Oct. 14, 2021, and Oct. 28, 2022. In total, more than 14,000 vehicles are affected by the problem.
A software malfunction disrupts the battery management unit. This leads to a drop in power and can cause an accident. The problem was detected through internal quality control.
However, there is no information as to whether the malfunction has been the cause of actual accidents. Owners of the iX, i4 and i7, released in the aforementioned time period, can continue to operate the vehicles. The new version of the software will be available at dealerships for free. BMW will be sending notifications about the need to update the software since February.
