It became known how many Challenger tanks the UK will send to Ukraine
On 16 January, the UK is to officially announce the transfer of Challenger 2 tanks to Ukraine. The plan has been approved by the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Rishi Sunak.
Here's What We Know
According to the British newspaper The Independent, Ukraine will receive 12 Challenger 2 tanks. At that, the first 4 combat vehicles will be transferred immediately. The rest will arrive a little later. This number of tanks is enough to create one company.
Again, 12 units of Challenger 2 will not have much effect on the course of the war. However, Great Britain will be the first Western country to transfer its tanks to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. This is a signal to Germany, which still cannot decide to send the Leopard 2.
Bloomberg reports that Olaf Scholz will make a decision next week, before the Jan. 20 meeting of defense ministers in the Ramstein format. German officials, on condition of anonymity, say the chancellor is inclined to approve supplies of Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine.
