Apple Watch becomes official World Surf League gadget

The Apple Watch is recognised as the official gadget of the World Surf League (WSL). It will now help surfers during competitions.

Details

For the first time, the Apple Watch is an official device for professional-level sports competitions. During the Championship Tour season, World Surf League competitors will receive either an Apple Watch Ultra or Apple Watch Series 8 before each swim. They will have access to the WSL Surfer app, which will provide athletes with key information.

For example, the WSL Surfer synchronises with the WSL scoring system in real time. This provides athletes at the event with the information they need, including scores, wave priority and time in the race, right on their wrist.

Before officially introducing the Apple Watch this year, the WSL has been testing the technology for the past two seasons to make sure it is compliant.
