Phil Spencer says that 2022 was too easy in terms of games and promises to improve in 2023
In 2021, Microsoft released several very good projects: Forza Horzion 5, Halo Infinite, Age of Empires IV, and Psychonauts 2, for which it even received the title of Publisher of the Year from Metacritic. The year 2022 was not planned to be as busy at first - among the major projects, Starfield and Redfall were postponed to 2023. Therefore, Microsoft focused on supporting smaller projects, such as Grounded, Pentiment, and As Dusk Falls.
Of course, users weren't too happy about this, especially against the backdrop of the PlayStation, which received God of War: Ragnarok, Horizon Forbidden West, and the smaller Sifu and Stray titles. The CEO of the company's gaming division, Phill Spencer, admitted immediately after the Xbox/Bethesda presentation:
"The commitment we have to our customers to continue to deliver great games is something that I take seriously, the teams take seriously, and 2022 was too light on games."
This year the following games have the potential to be successful ones: Starfiled and Redfall (which will never be released), Minecraft Legends, and the eighth part of Forza Motosports could all contribute to this. The company has already started the year well by announcing and immediately releasing the rhythmic game Hi-Fi Rush. According to Spencer, the idea of the announcement and instant release came from the developer Tango Gameworks.
Spencer also once again discussed the acquisition of Activision by Blizzard, where the process has been delayed for a very long time.
