Samsung Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+: exclusive Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, redesign and improved battery life from $800

At today's launch, in addition to the top-of-the-line Galaxy S23 Ultra, Samsung also unveiled the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+ flagships.

Here's What We've Seen

As with the Galaxy S23 Ultra, there aren't many drastic changes here either. Both in terms of looks and features, the new models are very similar to last year's. There are some differences in design, though: the main camera modules are now located separately, rather than in a rectangular block as before. As a result, they look more like their "big brother", although they have a flat display rather than a rounded edge. The smartphones also use the new Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and are available in four colours: beige, green, lavender and traditional black.

Perhaps the main feature of the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+ (as well as the entire range) is the processor. It's a special version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, which features higher clock speeds than the regular one. And, most importantly, there will be no versions with proprietary Exynos chips - only Qualcomm processors.

The new chipset provides improved connectivity. This includes support for the new 6GHz Wi-Fi 6E as well as Bluetooth 5.3.

The main camera in both models consists of a 50 MP main sensor, a 12 MP ultra-wide angle and a 10 MP telephoto lens with a 3x optical zoom. There are some hardware changes though. The Camera RAW app can now shoot at 50 MP (up from 12 MP in the S22 series), while the main sensor can record 8K video at 30fps. For selfies, there's an upgraded 12 MP front camera with Super HDR support at 60fps.

The smartphones have pretty much the same specs, but there are still differences between them. The Galaxy S23 gets a 6.1-inch display, 3,900mAh battery and 25W charging power, while the Galaxy S23+ gets a 6.6-inch display, 4,700mAh battery and 45W charging support. That is, the battery capacity has increased by 200mAh over its predecessors, while the screens remain the same. These are Dynamic AMOLED 2X flat panels with FHD+ resolution and refresh rates of 48-120Hz.

Price & When We Can Expect It

The Galaxy S23 starts at $800 and the Galaxy S23+ starts at $1000. Samsung is already taking pre-orders for the new items, and the flagships will go on sale on February 17.
