Israel considers transferring Iron Dome missile defence system to Ukraine

Since the outbreak of full-scale war on 24 February 2022, the Israeli government has refused to supply arms to Ukraine, but that may soon change.

Here's What We Know

The country's new prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, gave an interview to the French publication LCI in which he revealed that Israel is considering transferring the Iron Dome missile defence system to Ukraine. We are talking about one missile defence battery. The final decision is planned to be taken after a new government is formed in Israel. Incidentally, back in October 2022, Ukraine submitted an official request to Israel for supplies of the Iron Dome system to the AFU.

Flashback

Iron Dome is a mobile all-weather air defense system. It is capable of intercepting and destroying tactical unguided missiles and artillery shells fired from a range of 4 to 70km. In 2015, the Iron Dome gained the ability to destroy mobile UAVs. The system was put into service in 2011. It is capable of intercepting up to 90% of targets.
