Alphabet shuts down pet robots that can sneak things in and play ping-pong

Haven't heard of Alphabet shutting down any projects in a while? Here's the news. The holding company that owns Google has shut down a pet robots project. It's called Everyday Robots.

Here's What We Know

Everyday Robots will no longer exist as a separate team at Alphabet. This was announced by Denise Gamboa, director of marketing and communications at Everyday Robots. She added that the company will try to integrate some staff and some technology into the robotics projects that exist within Google Research.

Everyday Robots came into existence in 2019. The company's goal was to create mobile robots for the home that could help people. For example, sorting rubbish and cleaning the table. Google was testing wheeled robots equipped with a single arm.

The closure of the project is linked to Alphabet's desire to cut costs. Google laid off 12,000 employees last month. The staff of robotics company Instrinic, which develops software for industrial robots, was cut by about 20% (40 people).
