Xiaomi has severely trimmed the global version of MIUI 14 - no Virtual Pet, Photon Engine and the ability to remove pre-installed apps
Xiaomi unveiled the Chinese version of the MIUI 14 firmware in December 2022. More than two months later, the global version of the software has debuted.
Here's What We Know
In December, the company announced that Virtual Pet and Photon Engine would be available for all smartphones. The former allows you to install a 'tamagotchi' on your screen, while the latter gives you an 88% increase in speed and a 16% increase in the power efficiency of third-party apps.
As it turns out, these features are indeed available for all smartphones, but not in all regions. The global version of the MIUI 14 firmware has no Virtual Pet or Photon Engine. You probably can't uninstall all pre-installed apps (except the 8 key ones) either. They didn't say a word about this at the presentation.
In fact, the global version of MIUI 14 doesn't bring anything drastically new. But the size of the software has been reduced by 7GB. The company also notes improved security and the appearance of quick access to frequently used applications.
Global MIUI 14 has long been sent out to Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO smartphones. At MWC 2023, the company released a timeline that says the update will be available for 18 models in the first quarter.
