Fatal accident involving a Tesla Model Y may have been the fault of the driver who did not apply the brakes - the autopilot was also disabled
In mid-November 2022, a video surfaced on Chinese social media of a white Tesla Model Y electric car Tesla Model Y in China "went crazy" and caused the death of two people - the braking system is to blame for the car accident, and the company promises to assist in the investigation. As it turned out, the accident may have been caused by the driver.
Here's What We Know
Surveillance video showed the car attempting to park, but then started accelerating and racing down the road. Along the way, the Model Y lumbered between lanes and hit other vehicles, including bicycles and motorbikes. At breakneck speed, the electric car drove 2.5 km, killed two people and ended up crashing into a shop window.
The Model Y was being driven by a 55-year-old man. Initially, it was assumed that the electric car was in autopilot mode. Then there was information that the driver had problems with brakes, but Tesla immediately issued a denial.
A few months later, data from the event recorder was released. The information shows that a few seconds before the accident, the accelerator pedal was fully depressed and the brake pedal was not pressed. In addition, the driver was using the steering wheel. This indicates that the driver assistance system was deactivated at the time of the accident. The police investigation is still ongoing.
