Germany sends Marder infantry fighting vehicles to Ukraine

At the beginning of the year, Germany promised to transfer Marder infantry fighting vehicles to Ukraine. It looks like the AFU will have them in the coming days.

Here's What We Know

According to CNN, citing Defence Minister Boris Pistorius, Germany has already sent BMPs. It is not known yet how many vehicles are being transferred to the AFU, but it was earlier said that there were 40 units. By the way, the Ukrainian military has already undergone a training programme in the use of Marder. German BMPs will appear at the front soon.

Flashback

Marder is a German tracked armored infantry fighting vehicle. It has been in service with the Bundeswehr since the 1970s. The BMP has many modifications and accommodates up to 10 people. The Marder boasts a sealed hull made of several varieties of armour plates up to 30mm thick. These protect the front of the BMP from 20mm and 25mm bullets from a distance of 200m and the sides from shrapnel and 7.62mm small arms. The armament comprises a 20mm RH 202 automatic cannon and a 7.62mm MG3 machine gun mounted in tandem. The BMP also has a machine gun on top of the troop compartment.
