The Ukrainian Armed Forces have started using American AN/TWQ-1 Avenger surface-to-air missile systems.

Here's What We Know

Lieutenant-General Serhiy Naev, commander of the United Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, has announced this. He also published a video demonstrating the system. The SAMs have already been put on combat duty. Ukrainian crews underwent a training programme in Germany to use the systems. A total of 12 such SAMs are to be deployed by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Flashback

The AN/TWQ-1 Avenger is an American antiaircraft missile system developed by Boeing and General Electric. The SAM is built on a Humvee chassis. It is designed to destroy air targets at ranges up to 3.8 km in altitude and 5.5 km in range. The system is equipped with two containers, each carrying four FIM-92 Stinger missiles. It also carries a radar and 12.7 mm Browning M2 machine gun.
