Samsung tops smartphone market in early 2023, selling 60.3m devices
A week ago, analyst agency Canalys published a report on the first quarter of 2023 in the smartphone market, with Samsung leading the way. Now there is an update.
Here's What We Know
The South Korean company shipped 60.3 million smartphones in the reporting period, down 18% year-on-year. Despite the big drop, this allowed it to gain a share of 22% and become the leader.
Second place went to Apple. A growth of 3% was not enough for the Cupertino manufacturer to overtake its main competitor. Having sold 58 million smartphones in the first quarter of this year, Apple took 21% of the market.
Rounding out the top three is Xiaomi, which suffered the most in percentage terms. It sold 22% fewer smartphones in the reporting period than in the baseline period. With 30.5 million devices, the Beijing-based company took only 11 of the market.
OPPO and vivo had 10% (26.6 million) and 8% (20.9 million) shares respectively. The sales of each company fell in the reporting period, but vivo suffered more -17% vs. -8%. All other manufacturers delivered a total of 73.4 million smartphones (-16%) and took 27% of the market.
