India orders 450 Nagastra-1 kamikaze drones with a range of up to 30 km for $25 million

The Indian Army is acquiring Nagastar-1 kamikaze drones. The drones were developed by local company Solar Industries Nagpur, which competed with firms from Poland and Israel.

Here's What We Know

The deal is worth $25 million and under the contract, Solar Industries Nagpur will hand over 450 Nagastra-1 bomber drones to the Indian Army. Deliveries of the drones will take just one year.

The Nagastra-1 is equipped with an electric motor, daytime camera and night vision camera. The kamikaze drone carries a 1-1.5kg shrapnel warhead. The drone is capable of engaging targets within a radius of 30 km with a deviation of up to 2 meters.

Guidance is provided by GPS. The hovering munition can remain airborne for 60 minutes. The operator can mark the attack, after which the Nagastra-1 will land using a parachute system.
