Microsoft is losing the console battle to Sony: PlayStation 5 sales have surpassed the Xbox Series by 15 million units in the past year

In the age-old rivalry between PlayStation and Xbox consoles, the Japanese devices have the upper hand, according to VGChartz, who analysed sales statistics.

Here's What We Know

According to the analysis, PlayStation 5 sales have outpaced Xbox Series sales by 15 million units over the past year.

At the moment, the Japanese platforms have a 62.7% market share, while the Xbox Series has a 37.3% market share. This is a significant drop in sales for the US manufacturer, but it's worth noting that this won't be a big problem for Microsoft, as Phil Spencer's team has repeatedly stressed that for them the most important thing is to keep players on the Xbox ecosystem, and that's primarily the Game Pass service.

In addition, Microsoft has long refused to release exclusive games for the Xbox, so all of their projects are available on PC, which does not encourage gamers to buy Xbox consoles, but greatly expanding the market for game sales.

Meanwhile, Sony, on the contrary, continues to release exclusive games, although the Japanese are increasingly paying attention to the PC audience.
