It looks like ASUS ROG Ally handheld gaming PC will be able to run more than just Windows games. The new gaming console supports eight emulators.

Here's What We Know

ASUS ROG Ally is equipped with AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor. The chip has received support for AV512 instruction set, which provides SIMD extensions. The latter are needed to run emulators of other game consoles. The following software is supported:

  • RPCS3 (PlayStation 3);
  • YUZU (Nintendo Switch);
  • CXBX (Xbox 360);
  • Citra (3DS);
  • PPSSSPP (PSP);
  • Dolphin (GameCube);
  • PSX2 (PlayStation 2);
  • CEMU (WiiU).

ASUS ROG Ally's ability to run emulators has already been successfully tested. In particular, YouTube channel ETA Prime demonstrated God of War running at Full HD resolution with frame rate of 50-60 FPS.

During the game the consumption reached 30W. It is noted that if games are limited to 30 FPS frame rate, the handheld console will consume up to 15W.

In conclusion, we would like to add that the ASUS ROG Ally will be available in about a month and is already available for pre-order. The console will cost $699. A version powered by the Ryzen Z1 chip will go on sale in the second half of the year.
