Tesla wants to produce Roadster electric cars in 2024 and equip them with jet engines
Tesla's history began with the Roadster model. Many collectors now want to get their hands on one, and one electric car has been flying in space for several years. Soon the American automaker will launch the second generation Roadster.
Here's What We Know
A statement to this effect was made by the head of the American company Elon Musk on the sidelines of the annual shareholders meeting. According to the CEO, the second generation Roadster should be put on the assembly line already next year.
Initially Tesla wanted to set up production by 2020. But the decision was delayed due to a shift in priorities. Despite the announcement, Ilon Musk is urging investors not to take his words as a promise to start production next year.
On its own, the Roadster will not become the US company's most popular electric car. If the Model X costs around $100,000 and sells for a fraction of what the Model Y does, then what about a car for more than $200,000?
It was originally reported that the Roadster will be able to accelerate to 100 km/h in less than 2 seconds, with a top speed of 400 km/h and a range of 800 km thanks to a 200 kWh battery. Whether Tesla will make any changes is not yet known. But it is clear that Elon Musk will not abandon the idea of equipping the car with a jet engine in one of the configurations.
