NetEase creates new studio with Ubisoft veterans
The Chinese company NetEase has announced the creation of a new studio - Bad Brain Games, which includes many former employees from Ubisoft. According to the company, the studio is located in three cities: Toronto, Ontario, and Montreal, and will develop "an ambitious new franchise based on a story-based adventure game".
The project will have an open multi-platform world and will be powered by Unreal Engine 5. The developers are inspired by the cult films of the 1980s, which mix elements of adventure and horror.
The head of the new studio is Sean Crooks, who was also the producer of Watch Dogs: Legion. NetEase also announced that the development team includes people from Far Cry 2, Watch Dogs, Driver, Child of Light, Just Dance, Army of Two< Splinter Cell: Conviction and Blacklist.
In recent years, NetEase has been actively expanding its studio portfolio. For example, last year, Capcom veteran Hiroyuki Kobayashi, who started his career as a programmer in the original Resident Evil and then became a producer of the Dino Crisis series, said that he left Capcom to join NetEase.
