German media report that Ukraine has sent Germany an official request for Taurus cruise missiles.
Here's What We Know
A spokesman for the German Defence Ministry confirmed this information and added that the request came in the last few days. However, he did not disclose other details, including the number of missiles requested.
Earlier, a member of the German opposition party spoke in favour of transferring the Taurus long-range missiles to Ukraine. According to him, they would allow "striking at the Russian military infrastructure far behind the front line". The defence minister was cautious about the proposal.
The Taurus is a kind of counterpart to the British Storm Shadow. The cruise missile is launched from a fighter jet and can deliver a 400-kilogram warhead over 500 kilometres.
