Ukraine's Armed Forces for the first time destroyed combat control post of SA-21 Growler surface-to-air missile system worth $2,5 billion
The Ukrainian Defence Forces have destroyed a 55K6E combat control post for the first time. It is part of the advanced Russian S-400 surface-to-air missile system (NATO classification: SA-21 Growler).
Here's What We Know
The destruction of the now two components of the SA-21 Growler air defence system has been documented. A photograph (below) of the dismantled 5P85SM2-01 launcher with 5B55P missiles was published earlier this year. They have now been joined by a combat control station.
The 55K6E was destroyed about a fortnight ago in the Kherson region by a high-precision GMLRS projectile launched from a HIMARS missile system. The export price of the entire SA-21 Growler complex is $2.5 billion.
The 55K6E combat control post is designed for automated coordination of combat operations of the air defense missile system. It gathers information from its own, attached and cooperating sources.
To provide 55K6E with radar information a 91H6E radar complex is used. If official specifications are to be believed, it can detect and track ballistic and aerodynamic targets, as well as identify state affiliations of airborne objects.
