Microsoft tests new Windows build with updated Explorer
Microsoft has started testing a Windows 11 build with a "modernised" Explorer interface that now includes RGB lighting controls. The updated File Explorer interface has a modern, homely look with large file thumbnails and a carousel interface that displays the latest files added to your favourites.
Changes to the File Explorer interface bring it closer to the overall design of Windows 11, including a redesigned address bar and search box:
"The new address bar intelligently recognizes local vs. cloud folders with built-in status,- says Brandon LeBlanc , senior program manager at Microsoft, - For OneDrive users, you'll notice the address bar now contains your OneDrive sync status and quota flyout".
In addition to the changes to Explorer, Microsoft has also started testing built-in support for RGB backlighting. This feature, known as Dynamic Lighting, allows Windows 11 to control RGB lighting using the open standard HID LampArray.
Acer, Asus, HP, HyperX, Logitech, Razer, and Twinkly are already working with Microsoft to implement the feature, which allows Windows apps to control devices as well as the Settings section of Windows 11. "Microsoft is committed to enhancing the RGB device and software ecosystem for users by increasing device and app compatibility," LeBlanc said.
Windows 11 testers can try out an early implementation of dynamic lighting, but Microsoft warns that there are a few issues with wireless devices, so it recommends wired connections right now. A large list of Razer keyboards are currently supported, as well as most Razer mice. Support for Asus keyboards and mice is coming soon.
