Vodafone Ukraine withdraws from the UN Global Compact
Vodafone Ukraine has announced its withdrawal from the United Nations Global Compact. The company did this in protest at the inaction of the organization with regard to Ukraine and Ukrainians.
Here's What We Know
Vodafone Ukraine said in a press release that during the war the company has seen some examples of the short-sightedness of the United Nations towards the concerns of Ukrainians.
Unfortunately, during the war we have seen many examples of short-sightedness of the UN towards Ukrainians' problems. We are outraged at the inaction and unwillingness to call things by their proper names at a time when Ukrainians have spent 15 months resisting Russian aggression, committing war, economic, environmental crimes and terror against civilians.
Vodafone Ukraine says that the development of the UN Global Compact platform is not possible until basic security principles are restored in Ukraine. The company does not intend to remain among the UN initiatives, as the organization refuses to accept responsibility and apply leverage for the sake of sustainable development.
Vodafone Ukraine is ready to reconsider its position if the situation changes. But for now, it is urging other companies in Ukraine to withdraw from the UN Global Compact.
The UN Global Compact is an initiative of the UN Secretary-General, focused on promoting corporate social responsibility. As of June 2023, the UN Global Compact in Ukraine has 126 member companies.
