Google Docs for Android will now use pagination for documents by default

Last year, Google Docs added a pageless format to the web version of Google Docs. While this format has been available for a long time in Android Docs, Google now uses pagination by default.

Here's What We Know

The Android version of Google Docs will now display "pages and page breaks" when you first open a document. This is to create a "more consistent visual design between the web and mobile versions". The only exception to the page break mode will be files without pages.

Google showed an example of a Docs app on a tablet that has a toolbar similar to a web editor. This change makes more sense on a large screen than on a phone, although the company did not provide details about the screen sizes that are supported.

The Android version of Docs already has a prominent "Print Layout" toggle in the additional menu, which also allows you to turn off the dark theme. This new page layout format will be implemented by default in Google Docs for Android.

Additionally, Google announced that Drive on devices with flexible screens will have controls in the previewer that "intelligently respond to the position of the device (open, closed, or partially open) and adapt accordingly."
