Sony has no plans to add games to PlayStation Plus on release: The company is interested in extending the "life" of projects that are a year or two old

Nick Maguire, Sony's vice president and global head of subscriptions, spoke to gamesindustry.biz about the revamped PlayStation Plus, which celebrates its first anniversary this June.

Here's What We Know

Overall, the updated PlayStation Plus, which added two new tiers: Extra and Deluxe, has become a real hit for the company (and for gamers as well), offering a library of hundreds of interesting games that is updated monthly. Games that have gained immense popularity during the year thanks to the subscription include Ghost of Tsushima, Rainbow Six: Siege, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Horizon Forbidden West, Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart, and Stray, which appeared in the subscription on the day of its release. As for the latter, such a release helped millions of gamers to get acquainted with the red cat's adventure, but Sony continues to follow the strategy of almost never adding new games to PS Plus, unlike Microsoft, which constantly adds games to Game Pass on release.

Nick also said that placing games in the subscription a year or two after release allows gamers to re-engage with these projects, and this strategy will continue in the future.

The company is currently thinking about which games to add and what new features the service needs. For example, they are already planning to add the ability to Sony starts testing PlayStation 5 cloud gaming feature, which has proven to be the most popular of all three.

It remains to be seen how the updated PS Plus will continue to develop and whether Sony will change its strategy towards the service.
