The film based on Ghost of Tsushima is "in heavy development", - says the director
It's been more than two years since Sony announced a film based on the Ghost of Tsushima game, directed by Chad Stahelski, who is also known for his work on John Wick. Therefore, it was interesting to find out how things are going with the film adaptation now, as other films based on game franchises are showing excellent results.
Here's What We Know
According to Stahelski, work on the project continues successfully behind the scenes. In a recent interview with ComicBookMovie, the director confirmed that the film is in active development. He also noted that due to the recognisable plot and charismatic characters of the game, they are confident that the audience will love the result and now the main focus of the team is to preserve the unique visual aesthetics of the game and its transfer to the big screen:
"We are actively working on it," said Stahelski, "I love the story. The game is about Jin Sakai, and I think it could be the most anti-samurai film ever made because of its storyline and themes. The journey that Jin goes through, his choice of who he wants to become and the kind of person he wants to be for people, is of great interest to me. And certainly the story and the characters are something we absolutely do not want to lose."
Earlier, Stahelski also noted that he would like to see The Ghost of Tsushima shot entirely in Japanese, and Sony supports this idea. It was also announced that Takashi Doscher is developing the film's script.
Ghost of Tsushima is available on PS5 and PS4 consoles. As of July last year, it has sold 9.7 million copies worldwide and recently surpassed the 1 million copies sold mark in Japan.
