New 2D Mario game may be announced at Nintendo Direct

According to Twitter user @Pyoro_ND, Nintendo will announce a 2D platformer Super Mario at today's Direct show. The leaked information also reveals that Nintendo plans to present a remake of the classic SNES game:

Here's What We Know

It is stated that the new 2D Mario game will not be a part of the New Super Mario Bros. series. This is interestingly consistent with previous leaks that claimed that a new 2D Mario game with a new art style is in development and that it could be the beginning of a new series.
