HMD Global has unveiled a new mid-range smartphone under the Nokia brand. The model is called Nokia G42.

Here's What We Know

The smartphone is equipped with an HD+ IPS LCD display (720 x 1612 pixels). The screen has a diagonal of 6.56", a peak brightness of 560 nits and is protected by Gorilla Glass 3, while the body is made of plastic and has splash and dust protection (IP52).

The Nokia G42 is based on an 8nm Snapdragon 480+ chip with 5G support. The processor has up to 2.2GHz, Adreno 619 graphics and is complemented by 4/6GB of RAM. The storage capacity in the smartphone was 128GB regardless of the modification.

The model has a triple main camera with 50 MP + 2 MP + 2 MP auto-focus camera, but no optical image stabilisation. The smartphone also has an 8 MP front-facing camera in its arsenal.

The Nokia G42 gets a 5,000mAh battery with 20W fast charging support. The company claims that the battery loses 20 per cent of its capacity after 800 charging cycles. The novelty also gets a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, Mini-Jack, GPS, USB-C, Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1 LE. There is no NFC.

The smartphone runs the Android 13 operating system straight out of the box. According to the manufacturer, the Nokia G42 will be upgraded to Android 15 in the future and will receive security updates for three years.

Price & When We Can Expect It

The Nokia G42 is already available for €249 / £199 for the 6GB RAM version. The company claims that users will be able to repair the smartphone themselves. A new screen costs €50 / £45, the battery costs €25 / £23 and the charging connector costs €20 / £19.
