Bose recalls more than 1 million old subwoofers - they could catch fire at any moment
It's unexpected to see 90s and 2000s tech in the headlines in 2023, but it is. All the more so when it comes to the famous Bose company and its massive recall campaign for old products.
What this time.
Bose is recalling over 1 million old subwoofers that were part of Acoustimass, Lifestyle and Companion home theatre systems. They were sold between January 1994 and April 2007 in many major retailers. They were priced between $220 and $2,200 at the time.
The reason is that Bose received 21 reports worldwide of the devices catching fire. In some cases this resulted in property damage, but luckily no users were injured.
A full list of the systems that are subject to the recall has been published on the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website.
Bose is willing to repair the devices free of charge or provide a discount of up to 40% on a new product.
