It did happen - the Ukrainian Defence Forces equipped a German Leopard 2A4 tank with the "Contact" dynamic protection kit

It seems that jokes about Ukrainian specialists being able to equip anything with Explosive Reactive Armour (ERA) are no longer jokes.

This year the Ukrainian Armed Forces received German Leopard 2A4 tanks from various countries. The combat vehicles have not managed to reach Ukraine yet, but hundreds of memes about equipping the tanks with dynamic protection have appeared in social networks.

And lo and behold, the joke is no longer a joke. At least one German Leopard 2A4 tank has received the Contact-1 dynamic protection kit. A video of the tank equipped with metal containers containing an element of dynamic protection has appeared on social media.

Such a variant of the combat vehicle rightly deserves to receive a new designation. For example, Leopard 2A4UKR. By the way, it appears that the video shows a Leopard 2A4 from Canada. This is hinted at by the presence of thermal imaging module RODVE-D.

The dynamic protection is a device that uses a directed explosive charge explosion on the projectile that was attacked by the tank. This significantly reduces the penetration capability of the enemy munition.
