US sends group of fifth-generation F-22 Raptor fighters to Japan

The U.S. Air Force has re-deployed fifth-generation fighter jets to Japan. The U.S. Indo-Pacific Command has announced the arrival of the F-22 Raptor.

Here's What We Know

The fifth-generation aircraft have landed at Kadena Air Base on Okinawa Island. The F-22 Raptor has been here before as a replacement for outdated F-15C Eagle fighters that are being decommissioned.

The current redeployment of fifth-generation fighters to Cadena Base is linked to the Northern Edge 2023-2 exercise, which began on 2 July. The event in the North Pacific will continue until 21 July.

The F-22 Raptor arrived in Japan from US Air Force Base Eieslon, Alaska. Thousands of US troops, five warships and a hundred and fifty aircraft will take part in exercises, in addition to F-22.
