Nintendo Switch helps FBI find kidnapped 15-year-old child
According to the FBI, last year, a Nintendo Switch portable console helped save a 15-year-old child in Tolleson, Arizona.
Here's What We Know
The girl, whose name was left anonymous due to her age, was abducted from her home in Virginia last August. Later it turned out that it was done by 29-year-old Ethan Roberts, who took her to his apartment in Arizona.
According to a federal court report published by ABC15, the kidnapper allowed the victim to take a Nintendo Switch with him. When the girl connected the device to a Wi-Fi network, one of her friends noticed her online presence and decided to notify adults.
The child was quickly located and the kidnapper was arrested by Tolleson police. Roberts was arrested on the spot and later charged in court with distribution of child pornography and transporting a minor with the intent to engage in criminal sexual activity. In April 2023, Ethan Roberts was sentenced to 30 years in prison.
