Edinburgh Festival performers use artificial intelligence to write jokes
At this summer's Edinburgh festival fringe, a number of actors will be showcasing acts whose jokes have been written by artificial intelligence.
Here's What We Know
A number of performers will either use the technology to write jokes or play on fears caused by the rapid growth in its use.
London comedian Peter Bazely admitted he was "out of ideas", so he turned to artificial intelligence for help in creating a "believable" show. Australian comedian Tom Ballard has also used ChatGPT to write jokes.
Among stand-up comedians who are more technologically skilled, Colleen Lavin will address the topic. She is described as a "professional hardware geek" who worked at NASA. Seeking support for her debut performance in Edinburgh, she claims to have created a robot that can determine how funny her jokes are.
The robots will also take part in the festival as performers. American comedian Stephen Brower has perfected a prototype of what he considers to be the most acceptable gay man for his new show Palatable Gay Robot.
On stage at the Pleasance Courtyard, the perfect female robot will face off against Courtney Pauroso, who will play the role of 'sex robot' Vanessa 5000.
The Edinburgh festival will take place from 4 to 28 August.
