The iPhone 14 helped save an entire family during the Maui wildfires
The Hawaiian Islands are engulfed in wildfires caused by extreme heat and drought and spreading rapidly due to Hurricane Dora. Dozens of fatalities are already known, but there are also stories with happy endings.
Here's What We Know
On the island of Maui, a family of 5 was rescued after being caught in wildfires. They were in a car but could not get out as they were surrounded by fire. There was no mobile phone service, so the family used Emergency SOS and the iPhone 14 satellite communication.
Using the satellite link, they were able to contact rescuers and relay their coordinates. Their correspondence with the emergency services was shared on social networks by the brother of the boyfriend of one of the girls in the car.
My brother's girlfriend's cousin and his family were caught in their vehicle in Maui while the wildfires suddenly erupted around them.

No cell service, so Apple Emergency SOS was the only way they could get in contact with first responders. Literally saved their lives. pic.twitter.com/PpxNwTGOAf
Within 30 minutes, firefighters were able to reach the family and evacuate them safely.
Apple's Emergency SOS via satellite feature is available in all iPhone 14 models and has already helped save more than one life.
